TRAINING WORKSHOP

This workshop is a day of training with A panel judge & gundog trainer Colin Pelham. Held at our fabulous new and exclusive ground which includes valleys, ditches and varying types of cover, barriers and bunkers. The morning will include training exercises designed to set your dog up for success. In the afternoon there will be a series of mini mock tests to simulate performing under test conditions along with help and guidance for each test. The workshop will be friendly welcoming and supportive.

The workshop is organised by Sarah Meakes, founder of The Woof Works, in conjunction with Colin Pelham of Norland’s Gundogs.

Colin is a hugely experienced gundog trainer and handler, having won a number of Novice and Open test and trials over the years. He has made up a field trial champion, FTCh Garendon Laura of Norlands and has competed in the IGL Retriever Championships. Colin is an A-Panel Kennel Club Retriever judge and has judged tests and trials across Europe.

Sarah has been competing in, helping at and organising Working Tests for over 10 years. She is the Working Test Secretary of the United Retriever Club Bucks Area, a tenure which has included organising and running the prestigious Retriever Intercounties Team Competition in 2019. Sarah is passionate about helping people with gundogs access kind, friendly and supportive gundog training.

 

Who should book this workshop?

 
 

Owners of retrievers at Novice level

 
 

Your dog should demonstrate more often than not; steadiness to fall, short bursts of off lead heelwork, ability to respond to whistle cues, ability to complete marked, memory and short blind retrieves back to the handler, and the ability to handle arousal levels.

 
 

This workshop is not suitable for non-gundog breeds.

 
 

This workshop is not suitable for dogs that are known to be gun-shy or have never been exposed to shot - if this is the case please register your interest in our Introduction To Shot and Steadiness workshop.
