WATER WORKSHOP
These workshops cover all of the key elements around retrieves involving water. Learn why self-control around water is an important skill for pet gundogs, as well as for those dogs competing and working. We cover why steadiness, recall and delivery to hand is challenging for dogs working around water and how to train the behaviours needed. Across the 3 levels we introduce dogs to water safely, build confidence in water, perfect simple retrieves from across water, introduce retrieving alongside water and work up to handling on and around water.

WhICH LEVEL should I book?
Beginner - Dogs may have some experience with swimming or paddling ideally, but it is not essential. Reluctant/reticent swimmers/paddlers are fine but this is not a workshop for dogs that are scared of water. Dogs may be young and at the start of their gundog training, or older with some gundog training but have limited experience with water.
Improver - Dogs must be able to swim and generally enjoy swimming. Dogs that demonstrate some; steadiness to fall, loose lead walking, ability to respond to whistle cues, ability to complete simple retrieves back to the general area of the handler and the ability to handle arousal levels - the odd woof or whine is fine.
Intermediate - Dogs must be confident swimmers. Dogs that demonstrate more often than not; steadiness to fall, short bursts of off lead heelwork, ability to respond to whistle cues, ability to complete marked and memory retrieves back to the handler and the ability to handle arousal levels - the odd woof or whine is fine.
